Discover the intricate connections between body, identity, and society with 'Body and Gender' by Sassatelli and Ghigi. This groundbreaking book delves into the complex notion of how our physical forms aren't merely biological but are shaped by social constructs and cultural norms. As a vital resource for scholars, students, and anyone interested in the sociology of the body, this work highlights the critical intersections of body politics, gender identity, and social inequality. By examining how embodiment acts as a vector of cultural discourse, the authors elucidate the experiences of gendered individuals and their relationship with power structures in society. Through a lens informed by both classical sociology and contemporary intersectionality studies, 'Body and Gender' expertly navigates topics like the power of appearance, the role of sexuality, and the intricate ties between gender and other axes of identity such as race, class, age, and disability. This insightful book not only unpacks the complexities of gendered bodies but also serves as a call to acknowledge the social mechanisms that shape our understanding of self and others. Perfect for academics, activists, and curious minds alike, 'Body and Gender' is a must-have on your bookshelf if you're looking to explore the rich, evolving conversation surrounding gender, sexuality, and the embodiment of identity in today's world.Shipping Notes

A wonderful edition!
Format: Paperback
I highly recommend this edition above all others available. The translation is very clear and lucid and actually makes Timaeus and Critias real page-turners.
Not only is the translation great, but the introductory material is incredible. While one review here mentions that the translation misses some of the nuance of Platonic thought (which I don't necessarily agree with that), the introduction more than makes up for that. So many available editions of Timaeus are written by reluctant scholars who act puzzled as to why they've been asked to introduce Timaeus when they are obviously either not fond of it, or dismissive of it as an authentic piece of Plato's canon. At last, we have an edition that is faithful and generous to the source material!

The origin of Atlantis was orally passed down from an Egyptian priest.
Format: Paperback
I haven’t even finished it yet because I’ve been very busy with college. However, it is fascinating to read the story of Atlantis. Personally, I believe it was a real lost city. Mythology can sometimes be true if it speaks about lost cities.
