The 500GB Aegis Padlock Encrypted USB 3.0 Hard Drive with PIN Access from Apricorn helps to provide advanced security measures within a compact form factor. Designed with a 500GB capacity and a USB 3.0 connection, it features military-grade FIPS PUB 197 encryption and 256-bit AES-XTS encryption. Its keypad allows the drive to be accessed using a unique PIN, while the drive is further protected using drive reset and auto-lock features, as well as Brute Force Self-Destruct, Variable Timing Circuit (VTC) technology, and a wear resistant keypad. This drive is further protected from physical attacks using a tough epoxy coating, while a wear resistant keypad helps hide key usage from potential hackers.
This drive operates using USB bus power and is compatible with most operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and Linux. While it is USB 3.0 compatible, it is also compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1. The Aegis Padlock is protected by a limited 3-year warranty and includes an integrated USB 3.0 cable, a travel pouch, and a Y-auxiliary USB 3.0 power cable. The Y-auxiliary cable helps to provide power by utilizing two USB ports when one port is not sufficient.

- Software Free Design - With No Admin Rights to Contend With
- With no software installation required for setup or operation and the ability to run on almost any platform, the Aegis Padlock 3.0 provides stress free deployment in corporate environments. The Aegis Padlock can be configured with independent Admin and User PINs. The Administrator Feature allows enrollment of up to five unique User ID's and one Administrator. If the User forgets their PIN, the drive can be unlocked using the Admin PIN
- Drive Reset Feature
- The Aegis Padlock also employs a useful drive reset feature, which can be implemented with a unique command. This clears all PINs and data, and creates a new randomly generated encryption key, enabling the drive to be reset and redeployed as many times as needed
- Auto-Lock Feature
- The unattended Aegis Padlock can be configured to lock after a pre-determined amount of time of your choosing. This is helpful if protecting your data when you're away from your desk
- Data at Rest Protection
- All data, PINs, and encryption keys are always encrypted while at rest
- Brute Force Self Destruct Feature
- The Aegis Padlock uses a three pronged approach to protect against a Brute Force attack. The first step is to deny access to the drive until the drive can verify the user PIN. After several incorrect attempts the drive will lock itself, requiring the drive to be plugged in again to input a PIN. This feature blocks automated attempts to enter PIN numbers. Lastly, after a pre-determined number of failed PIN entries, the Padlock assumes it is being attacked and will destroy the encryption key and lock itself, rendering the data useless and requiring a total reset to redeploy the Padlock
- Sealed from Physical Attacks by a Tough Epoxy Coating
- In addition to encrypting all of the PINs, data, and the encryption key itself, the Aegis Padlock adds another barrier between your data and a hacker. The encryption chip and circuitry of the Aegis Padlock are protected by a super tough epoxy compound, which is virtually impossible to remove without causing permanent damage to the electronics. This barrier prevents a potential hacker from accessing the encryption circuitry and launching a variety of potential attacks

- Designed with protection in mind, the entire Aegis Padlock family incorporates 'wear resistant' keypads to hide key usage and avoid tipping off a potential hacker to the commonly used keys
- VTC (Variable Timing Circuit) Technology
- Protection against hacker attempts doesn't stop with Brute Force. Incorporated into the Aegis Padlock electronics is Apricorn's Variable Time Circuit (VTC) technology, working to thwart "timing attacks" aimed at accessing the drive by studying the behavior and infiltrating the Padlock's electronics

Online vs Instore

As to be expected, not seeing and touching before purchase. I bought three pairs of these shorts in different colors for a trip to see my son graduate from his Army National guard AIT. I would rate the overall a five based on fit, quality, and comfort. One thing that I have to mark down, is they have elastic waist bands as described! In the description pic's, they are shown with nice long tie strings. The reality of what I received is the stings are too short to tie. They were almost the same circumference as the waist band, so only able to tie in a small knot, rather than a bow. no Biggy, until it's time for the restroom. Hopefully it's self explanitory....fumbling around with a knot! waist fits as stated to my size, but add weight of wallet and cell phone, and after a few steps, they begin to slide down. Tie string a must. I will see about finding something longer, as I do like them overall!

I love them but pockets tear easily

I love them. They look nice and they are comfortable. I bought a total of three and they're all I wear in the summer.
Unfortunately the strap pockets wear out easily. On my left pocket I store a ridge wallet and my keys. For two of my most worn pair, the strap tore up to where it no longer holds the pocket closed properly. On one of those in the same pocket, a hole ended up torn in the corner. The third one I had to throw out after it shrunk after being washed improperly (can't wash them like I did my previous shorts which I washed the same way as the rest of my clothes).
I think I'll continue to wear them, maybe even buy one more, until I find something better.
